February, 2012

HAPPY NEW YEAR

MEETING:                    Wednesday, February 1, 2012

TIME:                             7:00 p.m.

LOCATION:                  North Main BBQ, 406 N. Main St., Euless, TX

Louisiana Pit is to be commended for serving over 4,000 troops and their families from Ft. Polk, LA on December 10.  Several of the members gathered on Thursday to start preparing approx. 300 briskets to be cooked and served as chopped beef sandwiches along with 300 lbs. of cole slaw to be served on Saturday.  The organizers of the event had arranged for other types of food beside BBQ – chili, gumbo, pulled pork, jambalaya, and a 20’ x 40’ American Flag cake.  THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE TROOPS!!!

A Head Judge Seminar was held in San Marcos led by Laura Blount, who did a great job, with quite a few of the Head Judges in attendance.  This meeting was an attempt to get all of the Head Judges on the same page and to make sure everyone is doing basically the same things.  We are needing new Head Judges all of the time – so if you or someone you know think would be interested in helping out, please contact Lynn or at the next cook-off the Head Judge in charge.  On job training is the best way to learn if you would like to get involved.

Robstown, TX – Nueces County Jr. Livestock Show BBQ is always the first event of the new year and this contest continues to grow.  This year there were 93 teams participating.  Lana stated that Daniel and his committee do a great job each year making the cooks feel welcome.   Congratulations to all who had their name called.

A big THANKS to Don Wright and Darrell Quiroz for upgrading the website.  We have had several comments stating they like the new look.

Who would have ever thought that by the middle of January we would have over 100 events on the calendar.  There are several new events on the calendar – so be sure and check out the list and support the that have supported the IBCA over the years.

2011 was a record breaking year for the organization with 214 sanctioned events from MS to Hawaii.

Texas BBQ Assn. (TxBA) added money event is at the Ft. Worth Cops for Kids event March 23/24, 2012.  Membership must be current as of February 29 to be eligible for added money.
