Next IBCA Meeting will be:
AUGUST 1, 2009
10:00 am til 4:00 p.m.
VFW Post 8787, 500 VFW Rd., Austin, TX
ANNUAL IBCA MEETING
The Annual IBCA Saturday meeting will once again be held
at the VFW Post 8787, 500 VFW Rd., Austin, TX. We
have found that this is a central location to hold the
meeting and the VFW has been gracious host in the past.
I have contacted Promoters for free entries into their
events and received at least 25 like we had last year in
the raffle plus other items. If you have something
that you would like to donate to the raffle, bring it
and we will give you 6 tickets. Tickets will sell
for $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.
At this time we have the following nominations:
Executive Director: Dee Dee Barton and Gerald
Maynard
Board of Directors at Large: Laverne Akin, Bob
Barton, Dee Dee Barton, Andy Hollerman, Gerald Maynard,
Toni Maynard, and Jeff Wyatt.
We will be accepting nominations from the floor at the
meeting. Ballots will be mailed out after the
meeting.
Any
PROPOSED RULE CHANGES
must be submitted in writing, either e-mail or snail
mail, by
July 29, 2009
so that they can be included into the BOD meeting
agenda.
The VFW will be serving hamburgers for a minimal fee.
Our guest speaker, Craig Sharry, Texas Pepper Jelly,
said if anyone wanted to place an order that he would
deliver it to Austin.
We hope to see all of you at this meeting—remember it is
YOUR organization.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL TIME
This is the third month that I have mentioned it is renewal
time. If your mailing label has 8-31-09 on it—it is
time to renew. If you are not sure, then contact the
office.
IF YOU ARE RENEWING BY CREDIT CARD, PLEASE NOTE THE
“PIT/PITS” THAT YOU ARE JOINING. I don’t receive a
copy of the membership application. Remember 1 pit
comes in the $35.00 General Membership and any additional
PITS are $10.00 each.
Lifetime members must pay PIT dues each year to be eligible
for the individual PIT added money events.
2009 K-Town Sausage Party Cook-off
“Folks..The Big Boys and Girls” had better watch out .. We
had 19 young cooks that stepped up to their new pits
(donated by the families of Kevin Jackson, Forrest Browdy,
and Eddie Winn and Yeah I Do Cooking Crew and the pork chops
donated by Corey & Jamie Albert & Wiatrek’s Meat Market).
These kiddos went into the competition like pros and did an
awesome job. The judges were still talking about the
fabulous entries the next day.
The Somethin’ Sausage had 36 entries and you cannot imagine
the unbelievable dishes—from traditional sausage entrees,
sausage pasta, breads, eggrolls, sushi to sausage-seafood
rolls and sausage appetizers. I know because when it was all
said and done we just had to try them.
Even with the extreme Texas heat we had 53 teams that
stepped up to enter the IBCA 3 meats and support the K-town
group (plans include adding a walking track and play
equipment at the field.
K-town produces a super group of community residents and
past/new visitors that return each year to judge and support
this group of promoters and what they are doing for the
community.
We had a wonderful time & wish them continued success.

Quail Creek Vol. Fire Dept BBQ, Victoria
This was a great event again this year.
Steven and all of his volunteer fire fighters were a big
help. A special thank you, to Carolyn Martin (Steven’s
mother), who helped me with the table monitoring and with
the tallying of the scores. She also helped with writing
down the winners and verifying the grand champion. Also
helping with all the other tasks were Joe Rainosek, Ron
Kramer and Alvin Dlouhy.
Again,
thank to all who came out and made this event run smoothly
and raised money for the volunteer fire department.
Goodness know we need them since we haven’t had any rain to
speak of down here!
Jennifer Aguirre
My name is
Gerald Maynard, I am a candidate for the position of
IBCA Executive Director.
I live in Euless, TX. and have been in this area all my
life. Toni and I have no children, but we do have 3 Labs
that think they are (I guess we kinda of treat them that
way). If you have seen us at any of the cook-off's then you
all know Brandy, she is the one laying by the fan or inside
under the AC (what a Life).
Currently, I am the Manager of Rolls Royce Engine Production
at American Airlines in Ft.Worth. Due to the fact that I
have had 2 jobs in my adult life, it's safe to say I'm not
going anywhere anytime soon. My family was originally from
Oklahoma, so a lot of quality time was spent in that part of
the country during my younger years.... If you consider
hauling hay all summer "Quality Time". The things I learned
during those times, were to work hard, be honest, and always
do it right the first time. If you could not adapt to these
rules then don't mess with it... My dad always made sure of
that...there's nothing like tearing down a fence row that
you just put up because a couple of poles were not in line
with the others.
I have been cooking BBQ in IBCA for nearly 20 years, the
first team that I was part of did some cooking and ALOT of
"Socializing". Remember the first Stella Award? That was us,
so needless to say that was our claim to fame! Then I took
the big plunge and started out on my own, along with a buddy
of mine that seemed to always show up after camp was set up,
and always had somewhere to be right before clean up....
Didn't take long for this old cowboy to figure out that I
needed a new cooking partner, well along came Toni and we
have been going strong ever since. She now has her own
cooking team and does very well, she usually gives me a run
for my money, and a lot of the time she is the faster
runner. I cook under "Kick'n Back Kookers", and Toni Cooks
under "Redneck Woman BBQ".
What I can bring to the position is honesty, hard work, and
the desire to make things right the first time. We are very
fortunate to have such a strong organization to step into.
My admiration goes out to all of the hard working
individuals that founded IBCA, and all who have kept it
going and GROWING for all of these years. This has not been
an easy task, they have always put the organization first. I
believe that is still what we need, for IBCA to prosper and
continue to grow. I am willing and up for the task to keep
things moving in that direction. I believe we should always
look to our members for the em-betterment of the
organization, without the members then we are nothing. As
IBCA embarks in new areas of the states, it is imperative
that we listen to what is being said, this is the only way
we can continue to grow and be successful. Whether it is
your Hobby, Job, or just the way to meet new folks, BBQ is
Americas #1 past time, and who else better to spend it with,
"FRIENDS".....
